Talking Sticks

Talking sticks are used as a way of communication in traditional cultures, which believe that true communication is twofold — speaking from the heart, and being heard. The yang of communication is the speaking and the yin is listening, the holy aspect (feminine). When the speaker is finished, the stick is passed to the listener, who reflects back what was said; communication not being complete until the speaker feels heard.

The uses of the stick cover many areas, and different talking sticks can be used in different situations. We use the stick in our circles here. Many consider the talking stick to be the perfect wedding gift, and we sell many to schools to teach the children how to listen rather than compete for space.
